Front panel change 1964
thanks for the add to the forum.
Can anyone tell me when the front panel change in 1964 to brake cut out's from the full panel occurred, I've been told July 1964 but just checking on dates before I mod my front panel we fitted in 1981 to my MkI 1275 S (later this year)

First, when was your car built?
The change did happen around July 64 but as with some other changes...there doesn't appear to be a definitive change date.
There are some Aug 64 cars with the full skirt.....

May 64 is when it was 1st registered, 231st or 232nd Austin 1275 S built if my memory is correct

Heritage Cert as to when the car was built .. my car was in dealers stock for one year before it was road registered in 1964

Pretty safe with having a full skirt front with that date.
While we are on the subject...does it have the original gearbox? It should have had a 333 Y series casing.

i have the original 3 sync gearbox, a close ratio straight cut one as it was a sprint car but couldn't get on with it, it has a 4 sync straight cut close ratio box in it fitted by me.
I bought it off the dealer who sold it in 1964, he bought it back in 1968 off the old lady who bought it new, he sprinted it through the 70s.

I am 99% certain that a May 64 registered S would have still had the full skirt panel.
Good luck with your resto. If you get a chance, I am sure I'm not the only person who would love to see a pic or two.

BAD 942 B is the reg number,
Not really a resto, very small amount of rot on the rear roof gutter as I was a bad lad, so mulling over whether to plastic bead blast the whole shell & repaint it.
The engine is badly worn as it had about 100 / 105 bhp & as a 23 year old & on to my thirties I thrashed it everywhere, we had 7k in top on a 3.44 with the car 4 up and still accelerating one evening.

Hi Mr BAD, I realised that was the case 
Personally, if it was mine, & I could get away with not painting the whole thing, I wouldn't. There are plenty of 100 point restored cars about & it's the original looking ones that are the endangered species nowadays.
We can all understand an engine build & essential mechanical stuff, but an honest body & paint job is a truly rare thing nowadays. Your car sounds like it has a great history, why strip it all off & make it look like every other log book job in the car park

The earliest cut out skirt front panel I've ever seen was build in late June '64, so full skirt seems right as others have noted. Its a rare dry car too

Lovely to see the car in movement!
Similarly, I was driving through some Cotswold twistys a couple of summers ago when coming towards me out of a fast bend was a Mk 1 Cooper S Blue/white with standard white wheels being driven indecently fast!!!!

Might have been one of my old mates who had a light blue car with a white roof, 2 of them have still got their cars that they bought in the 70s
