I think that the MCR ought to seriously consider Biscester as its annual event. The facilities are not as developed (or as commercial) as Beaulieu. But the other facilities - and space is far better. Grass is always cut, no sheep shit on the grass either...... Pretty well central too. North South A34 trunk road and M40 London Midlands. All the summer weekends will be gone soon

Kelsey Publishers of 'MiniWorld' and 'Mini Magazine' are closing 'Performance MINI' magazine (formerly Modern MINI) with the Autumn 2022 issue:-

I’ve not read MiniWorld or Mini Magazine in years. There’s only so many times you can see a ‘Retro Styled 1380 Racer’ or a ‘1380 City’ or a ‘1380 Mk1 replica’ or ‘1380 Polished Turd’ anything to be honest. The reporting is way too thin and generic, not enough detail, not enough anorak stuff. Not like you get here. :D

As for L2B I did it A few times in my SPi in the 90’s and once when I owned an R55 BMW Clubman. Rows of 1380’s, teddy bears etc..

Blyton is a highlight for me, Beaulieu too. I’m more interested in driving events these days. Would like to maybe join some of the MCR Runs one day.

The "CooperWorld" monthly magazine from the 'Mini Cooper Register' always has some good articles, features and plenty of 'anorak' Mini info and is a very professional, glossy, full colour A4 size mag usually about 60 pages and worth the £37 annual membership fee alone.

Although I haven't been a member of the MCR for many years now, CooperWorld is a very good publication indeed!

A few years ago he was at the Autosport Racing Car Show at the NEC (2012) and offered to write some articles for the 'Mini Cooper Register' magazine if they were interested. In return all he asked was for the MCR to add him to their Honorary Member list and include an ad for his upcoming UK A-Series Seminar....to my amazement the club Chairman showed little interest and said their Honorary Membership was restricted in numbers and that they currently had no vacancies!
That's disgraceful. :|

I was an MCR member 30 years ago and I soon recognised that there was a distinct pecking order and unbridled snobbery.

Maybe he should be honorary member here. Blyton might not be a goer but a pub meeting at a time to suit DV would be good.

I rang him in the US a good 10-15 years ago to research something and ended up on the phone for nearly two hours. The American twang eventually reverts to Gloucestershire.

I purchased my “S” in 1993 and have quite a collection of MM and MW magazines.
I kept them for the Technical articles.
When I finally got around to “working” on my “S” I contacted both magazines and was surprised neither had an index for their prior issues. So ... I took some time and created my own index so I could make use of all my back issues.
Prior issues are less useful when I can search this forum.

Haven't read them in years as I used to go into WHSmiths and read them at lunchtime when I worked in Norwich and that was over 15 years ago ! Would buy them if anything of any interest .. so not very often.

Have got some of the very early ones in the cupboard.

I did think that Mini Magazine was better than MiniWorld though ...

As has been said, I guess its a sign of the times and everything is on line now.

If anyone is interested I have a 300 page Miniworld Features Index from 1991 to 2008 in Word and PDF file format...if you PM me your email address I will send you a copy. It came from Monty Watkins when he was editor.....I don't think they make updated versions widely available as it would of course mean many people would just refer to old issues rather than buy new mags or subscribe, especially for the technical articles which get repeated for new readers over the years....

Mini Magazine was good when it was published by A&S Publishing in Gloucester and edited by Gerard Hughes and later Jeff Ruggles, both serious and knowledgeable Mini guys. That would be 199? to around 2005.
As soon as it was sold to Future Publishing the downhill slide began.

There is still a market for a really good Mini mag sold worldwide. Try and do it on the cheap and it backfires.

Interesting that the Radford & W&P are both featured in the same issue - they're both currently for sale at JD Classics...

However that was actually a link to old news from back in Autumn 2022 when the 'Modern/Performance' MINI magazine was closed at short notice and merged into the back pages of (classic) Mini Mag. That followed a brief message by Kelsey on facebook saying the mag was closing with the next issue and all Modern MINI subscribers would be automatically transferred to Mini Mag unless they cancelled their sub.
The recent report of Mini Mag closing was reported on TMF by someone who was told a planned feature on their 3 family owned Minis was now unlikely to appear in the mag. That said nothing official seems to have been announced yet....

as this entire thread is based on unconfirmed speculation & what seems like little or no actual evidence, I am locking the thread.

Needless & unfounded speculation serves no one any good whatsoever.
