Over the years I’ve dismantled lots of Minis.
I seem to recall a black o ring that sat on top of the chrome bezel/ring on a Mk1 speedo.
I’d that correct? If so where should it be located and what was its purpose? I presume it was to go between the nacelle steel plate and the cream speedo pod to minimise vibration but that’s a guess.
The part number is 17H1283
The parts diagrams don’t seem to indicate where it should live. Might as well put one in while it’s in bits
Thanks. Mark

Re: O ring on Mk1 speedo
I'd have thought it was a gasket to seal the speedometer into the smaller binnacle.

I’m not sure Gary hence the question. It must definitely goes somewhere in that vicinity but not dead clear where

Ah, yes..... You can buy the 2 or 3mm diameter rubber as a length on Ebay. Just cut a suitable length off and join the ends with superglue. Perfect. You can also do the same for the two smaller instruments.
And here's another thing too. Using a different thickness/diameter, you can use it to replace the gasket between the bezel and the glass. I seem to remember that 5mm is the dia that fits between the bezel and glass on the speedo. Dead easy, done it a zillion times Roley

Reminds me, another bit to order for my car, though I think a strip of butyl tape might work better as a seal.

It goes here, as mentioned before it stops the fumes. I've got some O rings here for the price of a stamp.
