Sure this has been discussed before...but can't find it.
What type of tappet covers would be correct for an early 1071. Would it be like the 997 one which went down the back of the block and bolted down at the bottom?
Any images would be appreciated.

Yes, they would have been the early type with cork gaskets which leaked oil down the back of the motor! I changed mine for the later type used with the rubber gaskets 12A 1175.

No, I think the downpipe fitted both types of cover, I'll have a look through to see what I have l left.

I Must add that the later type came in two guises. The one shown in Bob's pictures and one which did have a cover on the oilpipe connection facing the inside of the block. This was done to prevent too much oil being thrown out via the down tube
