3H1457 - wiring grommet through parcel shelf

Post by gs.davies »

Any tips on where to find this part gratefully received. I found the part number from the AKD3502 manual but can't find an equivalent in either Minispares or Somerford's sites. Measuring the old loom, it looks like the hole in the middle for the loom to pass through is around an inch, with an external diameter of what I think it 1 11/32 inches to fit the hole.

has the part number changed now? Or is this something that we have to make do and mend with?

Cheers.

Thanks, if you do brave the mice and do have one AND you're heading up to Bingley at the end of the month, I'll take it.

5L23 is far too small unfortunately.

I have found one at Moss, listed for MGB, Sprite, Spittys etc - I'm baulking at the postage cost being four times the value of the item though!

Are you fitting a new loom? As they often come with the grommet already in place.

Can you remind me of the size?

I'm sure there is another BMC car that uses it as you say. This may also help?

Have you tried Autosparks ?

https://www.autosparks.co.uk/

They have most of them and in a nice decent quality soft rubber.

Some of the grommets these days seem to be so plastic (rather than rubber), they seem to have a harder edge than the steel they are being fitted in to.

The Autosparks loom I got didn't have the grommet and the repro one I got was too small.

Luckily I had a one NOS one that came with a load of BMC grommets of various sizes.

Not easy to find at all and best idea is to use an original off an old loom if you have one.

No that’s the one that goes through the bulkhead. He’s after the one that passes through the the front parcel shelf so the wiring can get to the switch panel, heater and dip switch I think.

From Gary's description and his P/N....it is the one that fits in the parcel shelf and that is P/N5L489.

I think that may be for the later mini. I went through this myself and what arrived was way too big... then I found some online but for the life of me can't seem to find them now.

I’ve managed to juggle a few orders around and have got one from Moss to make the postage worthwhile.

I’ll post a pic of it against an original when it arrived.

For the record, AutoSparks don’t do this grommet and it doesn’t come as part of the loom.

Here’s a link to the part if anyone else is looking. I’ve suggested to somerford that they stock this for other owners needing to work on the loom
