Type 22 Cibies help

Post by Rondon73 »

Good Morning Folks,

I hope you all had a good festive period and all the best for 2023 to you and yours!

I am looking for some help/advice!

I'm building an Italian job tribute replica. Unfortunate a Mk1 is outside my financials , so I am using a 90s SPI.

I have spent years collecting parts. I now having 5 cibie chipper guards, type 22 cibies, light bar, 3 Cibie Oscars and bonnet straps.

I am struggling to find the correct bulb fittings. The headlight bulb holders have the headlight bulbs and side light bulbs that appear to shine through a slot on the base of the bulb.

Can anyone advise on a part number for the bulb holder and bulbs?

Will the mini pass an MOT with the Cibie type 22 with chipper guards? And with the 3 Oscars on the light bar?

Do you need side lights to pass MOT?

I had been talking to the late great Bryan Purves about a John Aley roll cage and bracket. Can anyone advise where I could get a John Aley ? Or anyone that can make replica?

Any advise much appreciated and if anyone has made a replica if they have any advice?

I am also looking for the chrome arch and sill trim, was the original trim when no arch extensions fitted made of metal or plastic? If metal are these still available?

Last question for now, what type of sump guard was used in the film.

Any and all help much appreciated.

This is my first mini at 49, only took me 41 years to get one.

Kind Regards

Rz

Hi, a few answers for you I hope.

Yes you need sidelights for the MOT, Bob 1071 converted his bulbs by grinding out a hole in the circular metal to let a bulb shine through. On my rally car I fitted the dual bulb set up in the indicators.

Brian's daughter was looking after his old stock and of course his brother is on here. Try emailing bryanpurvesstock@gmail.com - as last time I heard they still had an Alley cage. Maybe he supplied Huddersfield as they are out of stock, but worth asking them if they plan to get more done?

Metal side trims are very tough to find and were only on the earlier minis anyway. The plastic 'chrome' stuff from major suppliers tends to be more like brushed aluminium these days, but look the part. Maybe someone can say who still stocks the very shiny chrome appearance stuff?

Hi,

I contacted Bryan's email address and I got response that they had no cages left and they would kindly check if had any brackets.

Do you know where I could get the correct bulb holders or a part number?

As trying to find out if it should be Cibie light surrounds or standard mini light rings.

Thanks for taking time to respond.

Cheers

The part number on my slotted bulbs is Philips 12620 but all the ones I bought from various sources didn't have the sidelight slots so I had to grind them myself. You need to make a thin steel protector plate to slide in behind to protect the glass from the pencil grinder................. not 100% successful so you'll need some spare bulbs
I used the minispares loom modified as in the pictures.
