CV Boot Clips
Can a crimp type toothed CV boot clip be used on the sliding joint boot or is the shaft diameter too small ?. I want to avoid using cable ties.

Re: CV Boot Clips
If you can get them use Panduit electricians stainless cable ties Robin. They’re brilliant and look pretty original too.
Only issue is the tool is quite expensive

I have always used the straps fitted on Citroen cars. You wrap them round twice and are a doddle to fit.

Re: CV Boot Clips
Thanks for the tips, unfortunately I've just ordered a crimping tool for the standard CV type so will need to give these a go first. Should be ok for the yoke end but the shaft end is probably too small.
Any idea what the driveshaft diameter is ?. The CV clips are for minimum 25mm shaft diameter.

Re: CV Boot Clips
I realise that it's not quite the answer Robin, but did you ever consider those circular spring loaded clips of varying diameters. Easily applied with pliers - I use those old fashioned wide jawed pincers. Easy to fit as radially tight as a ducks ar........, er....., bottom. And easy to remove and re-use too. A tad longer that the usual clips but very tidy.

Re: CV Boot Clips
Probably OK for the small diameter Peter, I'll see how I get on with the CV clips first.

Re: CV Boot Clips
Another stonking good idea are a variation of cable tie where the tie is pulled tight ACROSS/ALONG the cable strap as opposed to 90 degrees from the strap.
It is said that being tightened across the tie strap puts a full 360 degree grip around the item whereas the standard ties tend to pucker the pull-through area. Last time I saw a pack of them was in XYZ, the home electronics retailer - now closed and I forget the name!!
Name of the ties anyone? Come in the same widths and strengths as the standard cheapos

Re: CV Boot Clips
Maybe these Panduit ones Peter?
https://cpc.farnell.com/panduit/it940-c ... BXEALw_wcB
Same brand as the metal ones mentioned by Andrew above.
I agree the inline/horizontal lock is definitely an improvement over the 90 degree ones in any application needing a 360 degree seal. Not sure what sizes are available.
Purists will still want the metal ones!

Them's the ones..... you got it in one. I will ask them for a few samples and spread the word to the flock.
Off hand, do you know the diameter of the large CV boots? Many thanks for the reply

Re: CV Boot Clips
The small non-disc CV is about 230 mm in circumference. I don't have the larger one to hand ( too cold to grovel under car). I would have thought a tie around 300mm, including excess, would suffice for both large or small.

Re: CV Boot Clips
I have a new disc brake CV and boot in front of me.Off hand, do you know the diameter of the large CV boot
Large diameter of CV is 72mm and the outside diameter of the boot is about 78
Pi x D = 3.14x78 = about 250mm, so yes 300 odd long ties will be what's wanted
