1964 Old English White Code
Hi
I have an English Feb 1964 Morris mini whose original colour is Old English White.
The painter is almost up to painting and has asked me if I can get a paint code/formula for this colour for him.
He prefers to use DeBeers paint (I assume is readily available in the UK), it will be painted in 2k.
This colour was not used on Australian minis, so not sure if there will be a reference for it here, so is the reason I am trying to find it for him.
* Would anyone have this paint code or formula in this brand?
(No idea if different brands use same formula and codes)
* Also, Is OEW the same throughout the various years and different BMC cars that used it?
(for example would a 64 OEW mini be the same colour as say a 70's Jaguar that used OEW?)
Thankyou for your help
Brenton

Re: 1964 Old English White Code
Hi Brenton, I think you are posting in the wrong section - so hopefully the moderators can move this for you and get more answers.
The early old English white is slightly less creamy. I have matched my Feb 64 S colour to the toe board and rear parcel shelf as they were relatively untouched.
The original ICI colour code is PO30-2122. Later variants (65 on) still have the same code WT3, despite having more yellow oxide mixed for example. I have an Octoral chip code for it here somewhere, I will see if I can dig that out. Apologies as it is in my unit so not to hand.

Re: 1964 Old English White Code
From my original colour cards and research, I think they have the BMC codes for the early OEW the wrong way around. No idea why?? A quick check of mix makes it clear that 2379 has more yellow in it.TECH396 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 18, 2022 9:17 pmThis might help you ...bubbacluby wrote: ↑Fri Nov 18, 2022 2:07 pm Hi

Re: 1964 Old English White Code
Here you go, your painter should be able to match a MIPA code.
Just a reminder that this is the Feb 64 car, and that the later OEW WT3 paints come over slightly creamier.
I was over at the unit today so took a pic of the colour chip for direct comparison. The door top got painted blue (rally car) at one stage but the original OEW colour was great under the chrome trim, and not faded at all.
Kind of a reassuring exercise for me to do too, as I'd previous matched the colour chip to other original parts, so it was good to see how spot on my colour selecting was

Re: 1964 Old English White Code
When BMW resurrected MINI, they also resurrected some of the classic colours. BMW Pepper White is a modern day copy of OEW. I had a pressure pack of it mixed up and its a perfect match for the unfaded OEW on my 1961 Traveller. It may not match your 1964 OEW, but its worth a thought. Probably much less hassle to get matched, if you have to do touch-ups in future.

Re: 1964 Old English White Code
Good point Tim, it is indeed very close to the pre 66 OEW and I considered it myself - the paint supplier pointed it out.Tim wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 5:59 am When BMW resurrected MINI, they also resurrected some of the classic colours. Andy, did you compare a sample of Pepper white?
Tim If you compared them and they were undisguisable I will give that some thought and talk to my painter about it and his opinion.
You have all be incredibly helpful. Thankyou

It was a while back and I'm afraid I don't seem to have the test cards, at least not anywhere I could find. One was slightly greyer than the other, and I'm tempted to say it was the pepper white. If I used it to touch up, as I did in an inconspicuous space on the parcel shelf, it didn't quite match.
If I were to see it on a car I probably wouldn't notice the difference.
