Despite overwhelming opposition to the ULEZ Expansion, Dictator Khan is going ahead with it. So from the 29th August 2023 anyone who lives in the Greater London Area with a non-compliant car will have to pay £12.50 day to drive.

Not a political point at all, just an observation, we had a customer recently, nice normal working family, live in central london in a council property - they had a real problem getting anyone to quote for the job because of the hassle and costs involved in working in central London.These ridiculous charges are discouraging people from working in london, except on high value jobs…..who is that helping Mr ( do you know my dad was a bus driver) Khan…..?

I have a much better Idea. Why dont we make the whole of the UK, (apart from Scotland because the poison dwarf will want indy first) totally ULEZ. Oh, I forgot, he then wont have a job.

Sadiq Khan accused of 'manipulating' consultation to expand £12.50 zone as complaint lodged against Mayor.
“Sadiq Khan and his mayoral team have been accused of making ‘false and dishonest’ statements to the London Assembly and 'manipulating' a consultation to expand the £12.50 ultra low emission charge zone (ULEZ).The Mayor of London last month decided to forge ahead with expanding ULEZ across all of Greater London despite a majority of respondents to a public consultation opposing the plans. Under the plans, a £12.50 daily charge will be imposed on any vehicle entering the outer limits of the capital if it does not comply with emissions criteria.”

You have to question how paying £12.50 helps air quality....surly, if you are concerned about health the solution is to just ban non compliant vehicles from the ULEZ zone ?

The £12.50 is just the baseball bat they’re using to convince you to either go EV or use public transport. Andy Burnham tried it on the already struggling population of Manchester last year and was told exactly where to shove it. He spent millions on that only to mothball the entire humongous scheme, though I’m sure it’ll be back. Yes air quality in the city needs addressing but putting people out of business when they’re already struggling isn’t really the best way to do it. Just glad I don’t live in London under his watch!

The little known loophole that lets you beat the ULEZ charge: How drivers of older cars need not necessarily worry about Sadiq Khan's £12.50-a-day tax....
"Once cars reach 40 years old - so those before January 1983 - they are also Ulez exempt. So this also can provide a relatively low-cost option to remain within the rules while driving around in a head turner, such as an MGB GT, an original Mini Cooper S, or a host of classic Fords used during the filming of the ITV show The Sweeney or The Professionals.
Those seeking something with a bit more class, maybe a Jaguar MkII as featured in Inspector Morse would be more appropriate.
Although, for those who have to ditch their economical diesel car to avoid the charge, but are unwilling to pay for a new car, there is another option... buying a luxury motor before they become an unaffordable classic.
One 2006 Range Rover Vogue - featuring the throbbing 395bhp 4.2litre supercharged V8 - is currently available for £3,780.
When new, the first owner would have paid more than £80,000 for the car. But be warned, that while the luxury SUV is available for the same money as a supermarket runaround, its parts and servicing costs remain at a premium.
Also, for someone used to 50-60mpg in a non-compliant diesel car, the 12.6mpg around town might provoke palpitations."

The London boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Harrow and Hillingdon and Surrey County Council have brought legal action following TfL’s announcement in November 2022 that it would push on with proposals to expand the scheme in August 2023 despite strong opposition from across outer London and beyond including concerns over how it is being delivered.
A coalition of five councils has today (Thursday 16 February) launched a Judicial Review to challenge Transport for London (TfL) and the Mayor of London’s decision to expand the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to outer London boroughs.
Tim Oliver, Leader of Surrey County Council said: “We are committed to delivering a greener future, but it must be done in a practical and sustainable way. We are dismayed at the lack of discussion or consideration given to these proposals by the Mayor of London. The impact on many Surrey residents and businesses will be significant and we will not stand by and watch that happen with no mitigations offered from the Mayor”

The forerunner of the Mini .. the A35 .. lots of similarities except rear wheel drive. My engine contains a lot of Mini parts now and the bodyshell some Metro brake parts!

It’s probably not except. He just simply pays the fine . This is the problem , if everyone paid the fine and charge and used their cars then how would the emissions go down . Therefore it’s ok if you’re rich . …. It’s all part of this mental world we now live in ….
Some of my family are market traders in caladonia road London , had a flower stall for generations. My cousin can’t afford a new lorry that meats the emissions so he pays a £350 fine every week to use his lorry on a weekend … His overheads went up nearly £18 k per year . …. Shirley

Completely bonkers - one day they will come up with great schemes to entice people back into London to help save shops and businesses - this being after they have decimated the trading community, people who've moved out and then they'll have a public enquiry to determine what we have known all along - help not hinder!
I don't live far from London - and it used to be a regular trip for entertainment, but with all the increasing red tape, rat runs that are now closed I've given up and find my fun in the opposite direction. Still perhaps after everyone has cleared out I can enjoy a good squirt in my Cooper S!
