Could it be a Heinz Hornet? Can't tell if it has rear quarter lights or not?

Both LLH 845 D that was auctioned at Beaulieu in September 2011 and LLH 828 D where painted red at some point in their poor lives. Could it be one of these two???

My local rag was doing a series of "pictures from the past" recently.
This particular pic was saved from the recycling bin, for obvious reasons. :geek:
Pic taken April 1973.

Can anyone spot any foreign imports..?

There certainly aren't many!
On the left, near the front and behind what may be an Imp with the strip over the roof is a white car I don't instantly recognise. Could it be an Opel?
It's easy to forget how many Minis of all variants were about then - and all those BMC 1100/1300s too.

Looks like the S has had a good whack up the back. The windows on it look very tinted.

What happened to our British Motor Industry?......
Some great "nostalgia" cars there - I love the Morris Oxford Traveller (on the right, near the front). Had a saloon one of those once ;).

The truth is that we manafacture FAR more cars today than we did in the 1960's, its just that they are all badged up as Honda, Nissan, Toyota etc. And the profits end up abroad of course.

That's after he's dug his passenger door out of the pavement. Nice pic and a great website which is bound to expand in years to come as new stuff is added. It's amazing how much new photographic material is being uncovered regularly nowadays , motorsport imagery especially.

Yes, there is still a motor industry of sorts which does bring jobs. I suppose the truth perhaps is that we ASSEMBLE a lot of cars here. The difference being that those Japanese manufacturers largely send most of the components over here in the first place and the cars are just put together, so there are FAR fewer jobs in the motor industry as a whole - partly due to automation but also due to the component industry largely disappearing - companies such as Smiths Industries (heaters and instruments), Lucas (lighting and all electrical components), SU (carburettors and fuel pumps) etc etc. I wonder how much of the content of the UK assembled cars is actually manufactured here? I've owned one or two British built Japanese cars but when I've had to wait for spare parts it's because they've had to come from Japan :( .....

British manufacturers never re-invested to improve the product and build better cars and unions thought that strikes were a way of life, the number of jobs lost doesn't bear thinking about. :(

A lot of design is also done in UK the very popular Nissan Qashqui for instance is a UK designed and built car.

UK content of the Oxford built Mk1 New MINI (2001-06) was 40% and for the current 2007 onwards Mk2 new MINI it is now up to 60 per cent.

The Mk1 MINI Tritec engines came from Brazil but it helped that most Mk2 MINI engines now come from the BMW Hams Hall engine plant near Birmingham. Body panels and sub-assemblies come from the Swindon plant.
