Fanbelt replacement

Post by nickacb »

So I decided to relpace the fanbelt, a 1960 mini with generetor.

I took the old one to the shop and sold me a continental A30.

The problem is the new one is too tigh. I actually have to unbolt the generator completely, but know as you can see in the pictrure, It has no room for the generator to push it forward to its right position.

Could some tell me please the correct way to do it or the correct fanbelt size please?

Sadly that looks to almost certainly be the wrong belt.

An A30 belt is too wide (1/2 inch) and too short (30 inch) for a mini.
An early mini should have a 3/8 (10mm) wide and 32 inch (813mm) long belt so a Z32 should be the correct size

Well it is not gonna be easy to find the right belt width wise

So do you think that if I fit a longer belt with the same 1/2 inch width could produce some damage?

Thanx

A 1/2" belt will sit high on the pulley's and stretch/wear quickly. Likely being too long and slip in a short amount of time..

Thanx everyone, I reckon the mini had the 1/2 inch fanbelt for several years, I wouldn’t tell it was to wide if not for this post.

I finally bought a 5/16 un wide fanbelt so it fits much better I guess 1 mm each side is not that bad
