Just wondered ,if anyone knew why these Mk1's and "Clubby" ( 40% down the page) and the others (near the bottom of the page) were in the 'BMW Classic Collection'

BMW keep blowing hot and cold with their love for the classic Mini, first they were on about the connection to the past (Pischetsrieder is issigonis cousin etc). Then when the new MINI was released they completely shut up about the heritage of the Mini. But a few years later their marketing strategy changed again and they suddenly remembered the original and started talking up the link with the past again.

Its nothing but marketing as far as I can tell. A lot of markets (outside the UK) had forgotten about the classic mini, and they were trying to sell them to youngsters. After a while they discovered that they were selling more cars to middle aged men than they expected and those guys remembered the original, so their selective memory returned.

The first cars made by BMW were based on the Austin 7. In 1928 they purchased a company called Dixi which had been making kit built Austin 7s under licence in Germany so that they could get involved in car manufacture.
So perhaps the link to the original Minis is not so tenious.

To be honest I think its good there are a few examples of Minis in their collection, regardless of whether we like it or not they are the current custodians of the Mini name ans as such DO have a link with the story of the Mini.

I know the red MK1 its the one that came from Denmark & was once owned by Anders Clausthagers (? SP) Grannie & is about the most original early standard MK1 I have ever seen, the other 2 look like especially good examples of other famous Minis.

Not a bad little collection that
