Tedium…brake master cylinder removal

Post by rolesyboy »

Any good dodges for getting the back nut off the brake master cylinder on a hydro car. Everything that could be in the way is (including the hydro flexi pipe) and when you finally get a spanner on it you can move it about 0.5mm at a time cos the metal brake pipes are in the way along with a hat full of other stuff
I took lots of stuff off in the end and got it off but what a PITA job.
So what do the seasoned pro’s in this forum do?? There must be some nifty bent up spanners or something people use
Cheers. Mark

Been there and fixed it...... What I did was when assembling the bloody thing, made sure that the brake pipe that caused me the initial dis-assembly grief was routed slightly to one side. Yep, it's still there but using a slightly cranked open-ender I could get on to the nuts and undo a 6th at a time - then another 6th and another 6th and so on.

As soon as it was all together, because I'd done something out of sequence, I had to undo the bloody lot again. But it was a bit simpler 2nd time. I tried to blame my wife but she was in Dusseldorf that weekend.....

I have a super fine pitch ratcheted spanner that just gets in there, and with a twitchy hand I can get it off quite quickly - lol ;-)

I had the same problem, I use this snap-on Flank Drive® Deep Flare Nut Crowfoot Wrench

Genius solution. If I had Mick Jaggers money I would be by all over that.

That’s a very easy tool to make . Just cut the end from a old spanner and weld on a extension bar on … Ken

After months of extensive research and development and working closely with ‘Swifty’ since last night ‘Roly-labs’ have created the brake master cylinder 12 point ‘spatchet’
I am now marketing this bespoke tool/work of art as a service to the forum community and the ‘Brake Spatchet’ is available to all members for the absolute knock down price of £199 :D

I have attached a picture to give you a flavour of just how remarkable this beautifully crafted ‘piece’ looks in the flesh.
Very happy with the result. And better still it actually works

I am literally fighting buyers away 😂
It will definitely do the job and this way you don’t need to remove the steel pipes. Cost me a spanner and a 3/8 extension bar. Love this forum.
