Dwell curve for distributor

Post by timmy201 »

If you were able to program a custom dwell curve into your ignition system, what should it look like?

The stock points setup is ~60 degrees for the entire RPM range, which is fine but will over saturate the coil at lower RPM. It will also potentially under charge the coil above 4000rpm

I remember reading the 65D distributor had a dwell curve as part of the electronic ignition. Would anyone have a spec on what was used on that?

I’ve got an Accuspark blackbox and the dwell is adjustable vs rpm. I was doing some reading over the weekend and I’ve realised I’ve had the dwell set much too low. My coil is a standard 3 ohm

This was the way it was running. I have updated the program to have slightly less at 1000 rpm, then more the rest of the way up. Worth adding that the advance & dwell need to be 90 or less due to the way it reads and distributes the sparks. I guess there’s a limit to how long the dwell is, so that it gets some rest time at higher rpm

There’s a video of the same system as mine being used here (although they swapped from dwell % to dwell degrees for my unit)
