seat diaphragm

Post by Tedwong »

Dear all, want to ask for your help.
I'm looking for the following seat diaphragm for my seat. It is Vitafoam as used on Mini, but of different size.
Are they still available as the Mini's one?
Thanks a lot!

Hi Tedd

I too have been looking for some and saw these

I'm not sure if they are available though as a lot of places show stuff on the website don't carry stock.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply and links.
Sorry that I should have make it more clear. The diaphragm I need is not for Mini seat, its for a Restall. So, of different dimension to Mini's one. I think the Mini one can still be order thro' Mini Spares.

Cheers

Hi Ted,

I believe that either Contour51 or Len Chandler can supply Restall diaphragms.

Hi Ted,

Is it for a 'Type 1' :?:

Did that P116 come off a 'Restall' seat :?:
If,so please could you please send the dimensions edge to edge (not including hooks)for my records?
P112/A 305mm x 305mm
P101 320mm X 360mm
P151 320mm X 350mm
P173 760mm X 360mm
P300 375mm X 390mm
P357 365mm X 420mm
Although some are similar in size they vary in the amount of hooks or positions .

Ted,
the one in your photo looks like an early one( -1965 ), if it's the same as this.Which I presume is a P116 :?:
Image[/img]
The only genuine 'Type 1' I was in possession of, was a 1965+ and had a P357 which has 10 hooks.(I guess 8 the P116? proved unsubstantial)The nearest diaphragm which is being re produced is the P300 (10 Hooks),which I use on my seats. To compensate for the size difference,I use shorter hooks on the sides and longer front/back( giving away "trade secrets" ).
So ,if you get stuck let me know.
I don't know what my competitors use EG.

Hi Mark, thanks for the headup. I'll try them, but before I do that, Gareth cam to my rescue!

Hi Gareth, thanks for the reply, you are Ace of seats!!!
Intersetingly, your pic looks just the same damage as mine! ;)
Yes, my seat is Type 1, but how can we tell if it is early or late?
Image

For the 3 Type1 seats that I own, they all use P116 with 8 hooks(I'll reconfirm that) so guess it was original fittment?
I've measured the diaphragm from hook edge to hook edge(no hooks), and it was 17.5" x 15". Is it the way you measure? Btw, if you are interested, I also have another pair of smaller diaphragms in BMC package which I don't know the fittment for. I'll measure them as well, so you can add into your record?

Now, do you know if the company made the Mini diaphragm(as ordered from MiniSpares) also do other size? Where can I buy these diaphragm?
I thought of the worst case to repair the seat with Pirelli webbings, is that good?

Thanks for advice, and trade secret!
Cheers

Hi Ted,
Many thanks for info, confirming it is a P116 on the 'Type 1'.and yes ,that is how I measure.Again any info on 'Vitafoam' numbers and measurements not the list ,would be appreciated from anyone. :ugeek:

That seat in your photo is what I call ,a late 2nd generation 'Type 1'.circa 1965 .Because of the plastic 'Restall/Restall' knobs instead of the 'Masterfit' ones and the longer "rake"on the subframe. This around the time when they changed over to 3rd generation, again with the plastic knobs ,plus the 'Basket Weave' fabric and separate subframe /runners.
First generation being:

I am sorry I do not have any info on the 'Minispares' Diaphragms .
I can get you P300's from my source and supply the hooks. You would just need drill the extra holes along the sides of the base.
'Pirelli' webbing is good ,but 4 straps using the existing holes would be insufficient,6 or 7 as per 'Contour' seats ,is more the job.(Also available in black)

All the best

Hi Gareth,

That is some amazing information about seats!!! Now I know more. Yes, my friend's seats got exactly those dot dot vinyl as a late type. And I note that the thigh support is also of different shape for the early one?
In your Vitafoam database, it seems the P357 even more clsoe to the P116 dimensions? Is that also reproduce?
I still have other seat problem want to ask, and will pm you.

Cheers
Ted
