Fitting sidelights into indicator plinth (with indicator retained)

Post by AndyPen »

Hi Folks,

not found anything online on this, so wondered if anyone had any clues to share? I think the works did it at one stage, with white lenses and coloured bulbs?

Any clues or experiences would be welcome ;-)

I've only ever seen it done with dual filament bulbs, but then either the sidelight or the indicator ends up the wrong colour.

But please note that the law states: That every direction indicator emits amber light (except vehicles first used before 1 September 1965)
As stated, the works used twin filament bulbs.

Innocentis have the side light in the flasher, and white lenses.

North American cars had them as standard. Clear dual filament bulb and clear lens.

I've always used Morris Oxford/A40 indicator/side lights

I want to keep the car looking as it did back in the day folks. Some very interesting answers, thanks. I suspect I need the North American or innocenti set up then?

The car is Feb 64, so before the amber law came in by the looks of things too.

I've been chatting to the previous owners as there is no sign of the serving headlamp being modified, and this make best sense.

Edit to confirm, yes all legal on my car and best of all, Somerford has the dual filament type in stock - for export cars ;-)

Thanks for some speedy answers on here folks. Those LED options also caught my eye btw ;-)

NZ cars use this setup too in conjunction with clear lenses and white bulbs. Just a case of changing the bulb holder (27H5545) and fitting a twin filament bulb same as tail lamp/brake bulb.

I always wondered how they managed a white sidelight and amber indicator back then, with the white dual-filament Ba20's ?

I too bought the white-amber-LED that Oneball posted, for my Innocenti.

On one of my Minis I used the double filament bulb holders from the rear (stop/tail lamp) on a Morris Minor Traveller under clear lenses.

My Cibie 22s allow the sidelights to illuminate the indicators. They look great!

I see you kept the orange glass there Tim, was that OK with the MOT people? I assume the indicator is still in there too btw ;-)
