I have written to my magazine colleague, but no response as yet. Fingers crossed.

FYI everyone DVLA have told me that if the vehicle is 'substantially changed', it may fall under a different tax category. No response whatsoever to my question about the points system and its application when the only change is an engine (to electric).

You'd be better off just getting a logbook from a long dead 1960 Mini and using that until this nonsense is sorted.

Of course it's iffy. It's also a lot safer than driving an unregistered and uninsured car. That's asking for trouble.

Insurance..... If it is identifiably insured, then it is insured. Even if it is insured as a chassis number. Same as you can MoT a vehicle as a chassis number. Done both myself......

Ummm.
There was a converted Mini at Castle Combe this weekend with a green flash registration plate but the DVLA record shows petrol engine. Looking at the converter's web site there is an image of the car being charged using the original filler aperture which may have been enlarged? It also has "electrical test vehicle" label on rear bumper.

My view is that with the current "woke" groups and pen-pushers in all government departments, I wouldnt even try and modify my Mini to electric.
Just too much hassle for so little reward.
Keep your mini with an A series in it and buy a modern electric car, it would save you money (and loss of hair) in the long run. Good luck with the idiots at DVLA / DVLC
I hate electric cars !
