I have rebuilt a 1275 GT engine at 74 mm bore for my friends mid 90s BOC. Having had the injection removed and run worse with a 40 DCOE followed by a HIF44 on std engine it came to me. Having spent weeks rebuilding MGB HIF38s and setting up linkage I'm not happy. It took parts from 7 HIFs to make a pair.
Moving on I have 8 HS4s on the bench and it looks like I'll end up with three matching pair. I have found there are at least 4 different HS4 designs. I have hand deburred the four I have plans for. The 1400cc set has the correct linkage and my parts kit from Joe Curto arrived yesterday. Shafts, jet tubes, needle and seat, and needles. It ran great on the HIFs but linkage needs more work.
Just to go to the other end of engine size, I'm doing a set of HS4s without the vent tubes for a 970 S build. I suspect a rather large over bore, six inch rods and lots of cam. Rolling start Swift dog box 4.20 CWP with posi. Other than removing the burrs around bore I have not squared the openings. I'm wondering it I'm going to have to much carb? Steve (CTR)
Currently rebuilding HS4 s for two projects.
