LUCAS RB340

Post by big-un1967 »

Good evening

I am having trouble with my charging light within my speedo.

It used to go off when I increased the revs, as it is charged by a dynamo not alternator.

However the light is now permanently on. I did the test of linking the two wires at the dynamo, then running a lead via a bulb to ground (earth). The build didn't light.

Nothing so I changed the dynamo for a fully reconditioned one, and bingo same problem?

The regulator box is a NOS LUCAS RB340 unit. Not a repro.

Does anyone know how to test these in situ?

Regards

Paul.

Instructions here https://mk1-performance-conversions.co. ... ol_box.pdf

You have to use an analog gauge for some of the regulator stuff. A digital multimeter doesn’t work as they smooth the readings.

Have you ever thought about one of the electronic regulators, mentioned here a few weeks ago. Look identical but made in Lincoln, England with all UK made components with surge protection built in as I recall, blow up tyres, wind up windows........., they've got the lot AND good reviews. No Chinesium or Indinium parts.

I built my own using one of these. Been faultless for years. The only electronics I have on the car.

Try cleaning the points up in the control box, both sides with some wet&dry, this worked on mine.
