96 Rover Mini Copper Top Engine Steady and Earth Strap

Post by Snoop »

Hello, can anyone help me with the following - I removed both the top and bottom engine steady stabilizers today to replace the bushes and I forgot to take a photo of the top engine steady bolt with the earth strap attached etc before I removed the parts. I have attached a photo of the top engine steady which shows all of the parts, however I see there is only one large dia washer - is this correct or should there be another washer as well and more importantly, where should this larger dia washer be located? ie; under the engine bracket and on top of the engine rubber bush & sleeve?

Hi Snoop

The Large Washer goes in between the bone and the Engine Block.

It is wise to put a as large as possible washer on the top steady bracket so the top screw has possibility to better distribute forces to the bracket.

The earth strap goes under the screw and spring-washer of the block and under the nut of the bodyside screw.

Hope my expanation help.

Unfortunately my Mpi is in parts at the moment...
I promise i won't buy another MkI...

Just had a look at my 2000 mpi and there is a long ovalised shaped FLAT plate goes against the block. Held against the block by the longer REAR bolt as described that sandwiches the bobbin and a shorter FRONT bolt as shown

Maybe things slightly differ between cars and mine certainly doesn't have an earthing strap attached there.

Maybe you need to look at the parts list for your car is total authenticity is your goal
