I am in the middle of resoring a 1961 Austin Seven Delux, it is my first mini and has been a steap learning curve, i only wish i had found this forum a year ago , my aim is to try to restore it back to original.
The info im after is, im in the middle of putting the interior back in and i am missing the bottom dash panel under the speedo, ( i got the car as a shell and a thousand boxes of bits ), the original panels are red and i wanted to know what material and colour the dash panel should be??
I have another question, i hope someone can help me with this one.
I would like to know if it is possible to fit a 1000cc engine onto an early 850cc gearbox, the engine is about a 1980 and the gearbox is an early 1961 type.
Hi Scooter77,
The trims for NZ assembled cars were made here. I am not sure what a '61 should have but our '65 has grey vinyl, the type with a thin underfelt backing.
As Al has already said. Finding trim for a NZ assembled car could be tricky. It will be much easier if your car had been imported from the UK. Some pics of your existing interior would be very helpful.
It is totally possible to fit a 998 onto an 850 box. Straightforward even.
As far as i know this car is a UK built car, i dont think they started to assemble minis in NZ untill around 1962, but i could be wrong
The chassis plate says Longbridge A-A2S7-158832A
I did read somewhere that the base was plain black vinal, but it would be great if i could find out what it is suposed to be as im trying to restore it to as original as possible.
I will give it ago with the gearbox, i just want to get the car on the road so i was going to put the 1000 in it at restore the original motor as money allows.
