CLOSE RATIO GEARS --"SA" ?

Post by jl46 »

Hello All,
I have a MCS built 3 Feb 1966. Engine # 9F-SA-Y/xxxxx .
Does the "SA" in this number signifi that I have a set of Close Ratio Gears
in this engine ?

Thanks for your help

Thanks Mark,
I guess I could have been clearer with my question.

I just want to to understand how most if not all of the 1275 Cooper S
engines (1964-1971) and gear boxes were configured.

9F = Cooper
SA= Mk 1 and Mk II transmission with close ratio gears.
Y = 9.75: 1 compression

Is it fair to say that most if not all were built as above and therefore
had close ratio gearing ?

Thanks,
Jim

No, Close ratio gears were an option. They were never offered as standard, only as an option.

The 'SA' indicates remote control, close ratio gearbox, three synchromesh.

The Cooper and S had closer ratio gears than other Mini's so it means the standard Cooper/S gearset.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who do not possess it.
