Wing to Scuttle weld?

Post by Gary Schulz »

Could someone remind me the right way to weld this lower scuttle flange to the wing around the area of the seam? Not sure how it was done originally but I'm not sure I can get my spot welder up in this area. Pretty hard to reach!

I've done some searching but can't seem to find the answer to my question...

Most had one or two single sided/blind spot welds holding the return on the wing onto the vertical face of the scuttle. They used a copper electrode pushed hard up against the flange and discharged to weld the panel without needing a matching electrode on the other side.

You might be able to do it with a modified stud welder but I just put a couple tack welds in with the mig.

Yes its almost unpossible to reach the area. So I found my way to weld the seam properly by changing the Installation Sequenz. See my post below

Maybe it doesn't help because the scuttle panel is already in 😁

This is quite an interesting thread (or maybe its just me  ) on single sided spot welding, to be honest, in that position though, I would just put a couple of mig welds in.

It's all very helpful. I think I will spot weld the closing panels and then just MIG the wing to the facia panel flange. That welding guide for body repair is very enlightening. Interesting to see the assortment of electrodes used...
