Cooper air box

I'm trying to establish whether the mk 2 Cooper S standard airbox was a complete oval or had the slash cut by the windscreen washer bottle - thx in advance....

Pretty sure it’s the standard Mk1 type airbox Richard.

I think the question is about the shape of the box.....
If so, the MK2 had the cut away type air box.....it made it much easier to get at the brake master cylinder on LHD cars...
I would think the home market RHD cars would have had this same box.

Now, as with most changes...there may have been some MK1's with this new style box and maybe some 68 MK2 cars with the MK1 oval style box.

I am pretty sure the cutaway box was in full production from 69 on
MK1 oval box P/N is 12A955
MK2 box with the cutaway is P/N 12G2294

This changed again with the introduction of the MK3 S...same style as the MK2 but thinner.

Bringing this old thread back to the top.

Is the information regarding the shape of air boxes still correct? The reason I ask is because Nick at Beaulieu was adamant that MK2s only had round airboxes. Anyone know differently?

Agree with Nick. My brand new Dec Mk2 S had a rounded air box and my current March '69 certainly has a rounded-end air box

Ain't got a clue about the air box change points. But always remember that the chassis number change points referred to in the parts lists are notoriously unreliable. And also consider that during a change-over period, especially between mark/types, there was always a run-in of new stock and run-out of the old.

Unipart were big 'offenders' at this game, where they dealt with the original manufacturers who had old pattern stock to get rid of. You could order part number AB 1234 and you'd get AB 1234 that had changed to a newer spec but slightly different AB1234 is you get my drift.
