Extra stud engine?

Is this what they call a extra stud engine? What does that mean?

Yes the cylinder head has two extra fixing studs ,one just behind the heater take off the other next to the thermostat housing. On the engine in the picture the on next to the thermostat is a bolt as the original cooper s

Does that make it a better or a different engine to one without extra studs ?

Not necessarily but it does look as if the block has been skimmed, as the engine number plate is missing. Doesn't look like an S block but would need a proper inspection to find the full spec

Hi Robbie, the extra studs are designed to hold the head down better, so that extra performance can be gained without the earlier concerns related to gasket leaks.

Ahh so that's what the extra studs for better torqued down head. Extra studs effects which rocker box gasket used. Our these type of heads known as GT heads on a H12 engine?

11stud 12H engines were fitted to Austin/Morris 1300 GT and MG1300 ranges. And later MK2 and MK3 cooper s earlier s heads are AEG163

Engine in photo is from a Morris. Engine number starts H123895 on a 71 reg
