Spare wheel

Post by Aussie s »

Hi

Brought a set of Blockley tyres for my Cooper S - 165/70/10 from the UK but also brought a 145/70/10 for the spare as I thought it should fit under the boot board and allow the boot board to clip into the rubber mount/bracket at the boot opening.
I have the wider Cooper S rim - not 3.5

No such luck :(

Would a Dunlop 145/70/10 fit and allow the boot board to fit correctly?

Cheers

I suspect the boot was designed around a crossply tyre which is narrower and larger diameter. I have the same problem in my woody. I raised the rear floor board on a 1" frame.

Hi Kevin

I'd be interested to see a photo or two if you have some
Yes my boot board is original and flat.

Pretty sure the boot board /brackets for all Ss was designed around the 4.5” wheel with a 145 section radial tyre (either SP3 (??) or SP 41 Dunlops).

All Oz Ss came with 4.5 wheels and radials as standard.

However, I can’t get the boot board of my Traveller to sit flush over a 4.5 S wheel, even with a 5.20 crossply.

145s should be OK, MS do bracket sets for 145s and 165s, if you want to stick with the 165s you could change the brackets....

Personally, on the road, I prefer 145s anyway....

Cheers for the info so far

I had a Falken 145 as a spare and it fitted perfectly in the boot including with insulation mat and boot board.

Tried the 145 Blockley and it sits in to high - may have to look for a Dunlop 145 as I want to leave the brackets original

Would anybody have the measurement - hight of a 145 Dunlop on a 4.5 Cooper S rim?

Cheers

Looooonnng time ago, but we had 165 SP sports on a 4.5 rimmed Mk1 S, and all we did was put the boot board on top of the bracket at the front and put a spacer on the rear mounts. The clip was spaced using a piece of wood screwed to the original boot board bracket holes - so could be reversed if ever needed. Just a thought ;-)

Picture as promised Blockley 145 on a 4.5 Cosmic rim..good gap at the front and sits on the rear stops. My board actually sags a little but it’s still ok
