Painting over stainless steel

Post by gs.davies »

I’ve got a duplicate fuel cap among my parts, got a slight dent on it and I’ve had an idea to paint it body coloured. What do I need to do to get the paint to stick to stainless?

A good etch primer.

Here's an example

Can I suggest scuffing the surface slightly too and making sure that there are no sharp edges. Don't know whether these suggestions are relevant to stainless or not but they seem relevant with normal mild steel and make good sense
