Steering column support bracket change point

Post by Cammsjb »

I believe the MK 1 Cooper had a chrome finished steering column support bracket which was later changed to a black paint finished bracket, does anyone know when the change point was?

My March 69 S has a chrome bracket and my brand new December 69 S had chrome too. Or am I mistaken?

My June 69 MK 2 S has a chrome bracket but I doubted it was original, based on your comment Peter it sounds like it is.
Also just spotted the photo & comment on page 30 in John Parnell's book, all MK1 & 2 coopers were fitted with chrome finished steering column bracket & chrome bolt I assume.

The 68 &69 MK2 cars seen here in north America use the painted ones from new. Mine being a April 68, and all original car. I'm not certain if them being Export has something to do with it or not.
