E10 petrol

Post by ianc »

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me? I’ve read a few posts about E10 fuel, and there seems to be an issue particularly around the sender unit gasket.

In a few months time I will be driving my mk1 Cooper S to France, where it seems E5 petrol maybe hard to find.

Can anyone advise if there is anything I should do in terms of gaskets, hoses etc to allow my car to run on E10 without any issues.

Also I intend getting my car on a rolling road and the carbs tuned, should I do this with the car filled with E10 as I understand this will make the car run leaner?

Many thanks in advance

I would change the seals and hoses.

As for the tuning, why not take some additive with you. Millers VSPe is endorsed by the FBHVC and covers most things like octane boosting, valve seat protection, corrosion protect and stops the effects of ethanol.

"an issue particularly around the sender unit gasket."

That may be over egging the pudding a bit.

I had a failure of this gasket a few weeks ago, & it was a long running thread. The one that failed was from 2017. TBH, I have n't heard of anyone else suffering a similar issue to date.

I am not going to over exaggerate the problem Ian. It HAS happened to me. Take on board and digest what has been said about ethanol content fuel and take action WHILE YOU CAN as opposed to sat at the roadside. Especially at a roadside in France. You won't get any notice or warning.

The REAL irony of it is that it is just so simple to cure...........

I'd take a few minutes to read Mk1's thread from a couple of weeks ago.
