Top work as usual Andrew, well done. Now............ you need some ADO16 experience next I think............ seeing as you like welding so much

Re: My new project - 1965 Morris Cooper S - HOY 500D
I've been off the forum for a long time (project completely stalled out, life takes over!).
Very happy to return and see HOY in all it's glory, fully completed. It looks amazing Andrew, surely this is one of the most extensively documented and ambitious restorations on this forum, and it turned out stunning.
Kudos! Bet it felt great to drive the car after years of extensive work.

HOY deserves a place on the front cover of CooperWorld, the monthly magazine of the Mini Cooper Register. That it isn't, that's another story

Great Resto - The question I am surprised no one has asked yet - have you taken it to show the previous owner?

Re: My new project - 1965 Morris Cooper S - HOY 500D
Thanks for the recent comments guys
Only driven it about two miles so far, but will put a few miles on it once the weather improves and will take to a few local shows under its own power. Not sure about Blyton though, although I've had a few people trying to convince me to drive it there
The previous owner has seen the photos of it finished but not sure if I'll take it back as access to his premises is not great. I think he is pleased its done ... not always easy to tell his thoughts !!

Would be great to see it at Blyton, Andrew, alongside the Bangers and Cash car that apparently is going to be there.

Yes, I've heard that the other Surf ex-basket case is making an outing to Blyton .. talk about piling on the pressure
I really do want to get the cars together and I know (having spoken by email to the owner of the B & C car) that he is keen to as well.
I think if it goes to Blyton it will be on a trailer this year..
Watch this space

Re: My new project - 1965 Morris Cooper S - HOY 500D
As its been very dry recently and a nice day I decided to take HOY out for a little run.
Drives really well and can feel the engine beginning to loosen up after only a few miles. Somewhat different to 9748KO, much more civilised.
HOY will be attending Blyton as have arranged a suitable vehicle to bring it on .. looking forward to meeting Peter and the Bangers & Cash twin sister car.

Well thanks for the comments and I hope you wont be disappointed ..
Just remember, it's not been an open cheque book professional restoration and it's all been done in a domestic garage

I think that's the appeal to most of us.Andrew1967 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 9:20 pm Well thanks for the comments and I hope you wont be disappointed ..

Yep, agree with the above. THAT is the appeal of this restoration. Done at home by the owner, who isn't a pro restorer, in his garage.
What we'd all described as a bluddy good job

Re: My new project - 1965 Morris Cooper S - HOY 500D
HOY went to Blyton yesterday on a transporter … had a great day out .
Parked up next to DPY 160C aka the Bangers and Cash ‘sister car to HOY … also making its debut at a classic show. Was really nice to meet its owner Peter and have a good chat about the cars and their paths to survival.
They certainly both had a lot of people looking and kept us both busy.

Re: My new project - 1965 Morris Cooper S - HOY 500D
Controversially it’s cellulose not 2k.
I got it from Ken & Lynn Burdekin
https://www.carrestorationpaints.co.uk/ We have used their paint for years and have never had a problem with quality.
As far as I’m aware it’s Gipgloss paint. I used Ken’s HMG top gloss thinners.
HMG 2k epoxy primer then MIPA 2k high build with cellulose on top.
The paint was not flatted, it’s gun finish and has had just one light T-cut and polish.
