koni shock absorbers

Post by woodypup59 »

We're just fitting new suspension to a customers car.

The new Koni's he has sent are much fatter than the standard shocks and won't fit properly in the rear wheel arch. The steel stud on the top is touching the side of the hole in the wheelarch, and will scrape as the suspension moves. The rubber bushes will not sit properly in the hole.

Add to that, they aren't long enough to fit without some serious effort, needing to compress the cone whilst someone is sitting the car.

Has anyone else had this problem ?

I don't have them in front of me now but I do remember the number 1675.

They certainly too fat to fit correctly.

Also, they are definitely shorter than standard Unipart / BMC items.

Perhaps its assumed they will be fitted to used / sagged cones.

Hi woodypup

I had the same problem last year with two Mpi Mini's

On both minis i had to remove the very thick underseal in the arches.

Can't say if it's the same with older minis without sealant.

Maybe it's worth to look for someone to overhaul the original Shock absorbers?
I promise i won't buy another MkI...

I've got Konis on my late 61 Traveller. I don't know the p/n but they fit fine. At one time, these shocks were on my former Cooper S.
