Green indicator

Post by nickacb »

hello again, I just wanna ask if you have any recommendation on how to take aout the plastic green indicator in the stearing wheel lever. I took it to an electric shop because it doesn´t flash anymore but the guy tells he could not unscrew it, it seems it's too stuck to the end and he doesn´t want to break it by applying too much force or with the use of some tweezers. I wil, try to do it myself but I dont want to break it, do you recommend any method? thanx

You could try soaking it in boiling water, but be careful and make sure you don't allow the larger black retainer to twist. Worst case is there is someone on this site that makes new black ends and the green lens' are available from many places.

I sometimes use an elastic band around it too, not just for grip as you can pull from the extra length in a twisting motion. The black can be done at the same time in the opposite direction - use thick elastic bands though ;-)

MossMotors in the US had one for sale recently. Its not cheap though.

But as always Sommerford are MUCH cheaper, but still out of stock, worth giving them a call.

Had one here in the same state so tried the elastic band trick after warming it in water. Bit tight but came off OK. If you are stuck you can have the green bit but just a thought, have you checked the flasher relay as well as thinking it is the bulb??

Hi !

Be careful with hot water , if too hot can damage the black end, as genuines were made of kind of a resin which suffer with hot.

Good luck!

I finally unscrewed the green indicstor, it broke a little but nothing to the point of replacement. Now, to replace the little bulb should I also unscrew it or how should I take it out? It seems pretty stuck to its socket. Could it be easy to adapat a led?

Also, the the recieving end of the green plastic is not black but transparent, is it aftermarket or early version?

thanx

The bulb should unscrew and your transparent bit is just badly faded. They all do it after time.

Hi !

The black end (where does the green cap screw on) is made of a plastic (more like resin) which overtime gets transparent. Originally all are black. To remove the bulb, put some WD40 if to much stuck. And then with gentle try to unscrew it. All care should be taken as it is really easy to break the bulb.

Is there a nicer aspect to mk1 ownership than a drive as it gets dusk, with the gentle green flash illuminating the interior when indicating?
