Choke cables

Post by gs.davies »

I’m putting twin carbs on my car which is a 1961 850 (now 1098). I still have the original choke cable but wonder if I need to change it to suit the twins? I think the original arrangement had the cable pull the choke lever from underneath, but on the twins I think it can only go from the top. Do I need to change the cable? Is it possible to keep the original choke knob with a single ‘C’ on it? The cooper ones seem to be twist to lock of say ‘CHOKE’ on them.

You will almost certainly need to swap the cable. The std one is a solid wire and short, the twin one is a Bowden type cable & much longer. You can graft a longer Bowden cable onto the std knob, but it is a lot of faffing about.
