Here's a couple of items available at Anglia on the first weekend of April.

First is what appears to be a tidy MkII Wolseley Hornet, but on closer inspections it is probably hiding some horrors.

That "tarted up" Hornet sold for around £7,000.00 which I thought was plenty, but I see that it is for sale again already with "Peterborough Classic Cars Ltd" for a fiver short of 12 Grand! I doubt that much has been put right. It is listed on "car and classic" currently.

There is such a data base. Just put in the details you want and find the cars you are interested in.

You can have hours of fun searching for cars there and see the silly increase in prices that has happened over the last 5 years or so.

Thanks for that. I guess it's just out of interest as I don't see any dealer backing off and admitting they were taking you for a mug.

But is it really the dealers fault?

Auctions are open to the public and anyone can bid and buy direct.

I sold my Mk2 Traveller at auction a few years ago. It sold for £4,250+commission. About 6 months later I saw it at Beaulieu and spoke to the owner. He paid more than double the hammer price and was most upset when he found out what the dealer had paid at auction.

Ofcourse if everyone was up to the minute on all of the auctions it would be great but who has the time to do that ?. A mark up is to be expected but not to the extent you see on things like that Hornet. Even if you got them to knock off a grand it's still taking the pi$$. I've said it many times before, I have no time for "classic car dealers" (ok there are some decent ones but a lot of them are just a joke) . We all have to earn a living, granted, but by definition you have to actually do something to earn it, not just take some photo's in front of a country mansion and write a load of pish about it. I bought a car from a dealer once,, within the paperwork were details of the original owner so I contacted them to chat about the car. Turns out they sold it at a charity auction (owner had passed from cancer), bought by the dealer, who then marked it up astronomically. "my bad" as the young folk say these days but really wound me up.

Barons have a couple of early Mk1s coming up in their sale next weekend.

First up is a 1959 Farina Grey Austin. It looks like an older restoration but looks tidy and useable, although the front foot wells look like they have had some bodgery and the underside is covered in black underseal. Price seems reasonable if it goes for the lower side of the estimate.

The other is a 1961 Clipper Blue Austin which was once part of the Patrick Collection. Again this one looks presentable and useable, but the floor is covered in black goo and what looks like a long standing oil leek. It come with plenty of museum paper work and history.

Brightwells have a 1962 Austin DeLux in their sale that starts online this weekend. An older restoration that looks like it could do with a refresh. Also some of the work does not look like it is up to the standard expected these days. Bearing that in mind the estimate is a bit high and it may struggle to sell.

Exactly as you say Stu. A superficially bright little Mini but horrible oversills, later front front panel and wrong bumpers, bonnet badge, chassis plate, boot mat, etc etc etc. Nicely original interior is a plus.

Looks like Barons are having another go with the 1959 Farina Grey Austin. The estimate has been dropped by £3,000 and I have just worked out why this has had a problem selling, it looks to me that the shell has recessed screens.

H&H currently have this tidy looking Morris 1300 MkII on one of their online auctions. Price is currently £2000, with an estimate of £4-£5k. The car is located in Cheshire.
