Post by Fanfaniracing »

Changed my broken Speedo Cable Wednesday evening and made a couple of meters yesterday and my speedo cable twisted itself like i never seen before...

May i took a too long cable? It's a 30"

Mines 26". I'd be testing your speedo head to make sure it's not seizing up and causing this.

just purchased a new Speedo Cable at £10.44 inc vat from my Favorite UK parts supplier and am very concerned in the product that arrived .. given the cable package was marked as Made in England.. My issue is the cable end Nuts are made in an alloy so soft the nut has miss-shaped that is before i had even tried to fit this new cable onto the gearbox drive .. also the inner cable that is formed into the drive square shape looked as if it would unravel the cable end once it was installed .. one thing is certain buy cheap & I get what i pay for
Solution a tatty old BMC Speedo Cable is now fitted .

Never seen that before and I admit I've fitted longer cables for convenience.

Big question, how did you get down to the gearbox end so quickly???

To fit the new cable was a task of 5 minutes.
First i put the cable down from above, and then just connected it from underneath. Then just connected the Speedo.
I must admit that working on a car lift makes it sometimes quite easy.

Spoke to my old master and he belive that the cable might be to long...

I will order some 26" long cables next time
I promise i won't buy another MkI...
