Front subframe question ? Innocenti ?

Post by Andrew1967 »

A friend asked me today what these two captive nuts are for on a front subframe he has for his early van.

It transpires its not the original one but one he has bought for it.

Someone has said it could be an Innocenti one and the nuts are for a bracket to fix the horn to. There's no evidence of 'Firsat' on the front edge.

Any thoughts ?

Yes I agree, looks like the nuts for the twin horns on an Innocenti Mini. The small Firsat stamp should be along the front somewhere.

Thanks for the replies … seems like it’s an Inno subframe then 👍

From what I understand the Firsat stamp doesn't always show up immediately and may not show until it's all stripped and blasted. Very nice rarity, you can see the holes in mine in this picture. Mine seems to have lost the captive nuts. I guess they must have been rusted in and been drilled out at some point in its life.

Of course I know what a dipstick is, you get called something often enough you look it up!

This picture from an Inno parts manual shows the horn parts for the Cooper models that are fitted to the front subframe. Note that it shows nuts for the lower fitting, so I guess not all subframes had the captive nuts fitted.

On the lesser models the cars had a single horn mounted via a bracket to the top of teh engine, as seen in the top left of the illustration.

Lots of great Inno info here
