61 countryman fuel tank grommet

Post by ateichert »

Has anyone come up with a suitable fuel tank neck grommet for internal tank?
Thanks Mike

I'd try Triumph Herald or Vitesse.. They use the same cap, and they have a tank with a protruding neck, so the neck diameter must be the same.

Or maybe an earlier Austin / Morris model like an A30.

The same size cap apparently fits A30, and A35, but I'm not sure if sedan and countryman are the same. It will also fit a several of the smaller Triumphs and Standards from the '50s and '60s. Any of them chould be a candidate for the grommet.

This ebay seller lists two sizes for A30/35, with dimensions, but I think they are both too big. From memory the neck has an OD of 2 inches (~51mm).

Anyone able to post up a picture of an original grommet for reference ?

I have a couple in the shed somewhere that I’ve never been able to ID that came from a BMC garage.

Sorry, only in the car. Probably of limited value.

I was wrong, the OD of the neck is 1 3/4" (about 45mm). Its even smaller than I realised. The flange on the outer part of the rubber grommet measures about 67mm, maybe 2 5/8. I can't measure the hole in the panel.

Oh and ignore the wood in my photo, its probably a bit of gum tree or something.
