Purolator oil filter housing

On my 1967 Austin Cooper, I have this Purolator oil filter housing, with pressure switch for warning light. Part number 37H1528. This part is no longer available.
My engine is being rebuilt and the rubber seems to be damaged. What would you do?
I want to stay as close as possible from original.

Someone has thinking something when welding the pressure release ball.

I do this on every bulild.

Imagine your Filter is blocked, the valve opens and all the Dirt goes directly to your Bearings...

...but imagine filter is blocked and no oil gets to the bearings. What will happen then? Crank? Perhaps conrods? Bearings gone in any case within half a minute...

Scrape away one or two of the staked retainers and you will be able to hook out the plate that retains the seal. Strip spring etc out carefully, clean and inspect, re-seat and test. Simple to test using a continuity meter while you press in the rubber tit with the end of a pencil. Just re-stake and you're home and dry.

Are you sure that there shouldn't be a large diameter circular plate attached, on TOP of all of this stuff too?

My 69 S has the tab but the wiring it taped back into the loom - with a little note stuck into the user handbook to this effect

While we're on the subject, can anyone in forumland explain why the latter Mk2 Coopers and S's had the purple and white wire to the filter head tucked back into the loom. Together with the little explanatory notr stuck in the user handbook. Just out of interest
