'65 "S" engine paint colour
As originally supplied was both the engine and transmission painted green?
What lines or parts are NOT green? What colour would they be?

Re: '65 "S" engine paint colour
By most reports it wasn’t a very delicate job, just liberally hosed down with whatever rough mix of mid-bronze green paint was on hand any particular day... Check out around 11 minutes in this video for a [non-S, auto] ADO16 engine being painted on the line. https://youtu.be/ieraaVfUs4Q
There are a few discussions on here if you do some text searches, but from what I understand:
Oil cooler and pressure gauge lines, distributor, solenoid, clutch slave [and manifolds on S only] were fitted after the engine painting. Dynamo/generator & coil seem to be painted on some cars, but not on all. Head, block, starter motor, rocker cover & bolts, freeze plugs, water pump & thermostat, clutch and transfer housings, gearbox casing and oil filter bowl were green.
Things at the periphery like the heater tap and the various pieces of tinware were all originally painted green to some extent - usually just on the exposed faces, with no real coverage behind/underneath for example. Basically, ‘tarted up’ just enough that when a customer lifted the bonnet, it all looked nice and shiny
[Personally I think the painted alloy looks terrible, as they didn’t use any primer so it flaked off almost immediately. Many choose to paint the ancillaries black and keep the alloy parts silver, just painting the block, head and rocker cover green.]

I’ve an old starter motor and a dynamo here - both are green with the black showing through on the inside where the spray didn’t go!!

So I guess either black or green for the dynamo and starter as I feel like it......rivet counters comment now or for ever hold one's peace.....
I think I remember most being black by the time I saw them in the 80's with the occasional green one....

I paint mine black - the original 'spray it quick where you can see it' doesn't work for me.

Not the best picture, but I'm sure you can get the idea.
Started & Dynamo were certainly green from the factory.

I'd suggest about 3/4 ish green from the examples I have here. They certainly didn't appear to try and get in behind very muchOld English White wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 3:55 pm Starter and dynamo always green originally though![]()

Yep, paint it black first as per Lucas and then green over the top when it’s on the engine
