The powder is a bit more expensive than plain powder about half as much again, plus it has a limited shelf life.
VHT works well for a few bits - I put a box over the top after spraying with one end open and point a fan heater in, seemed to work OK and kept the better half happy.

I've done a few MG dashboards before, and I used VHT but also some other wrinkle finish paint I think by Hammerite.
Didn't use a heat gun and still had good results but found you have to be consistent with the coverage, (or thickness) of the paint for consistent wrinkles.
