Monte Carlo Jan 67. Makinen?Easter. Gp2. Mk1. Frontal impact.
Time lag to next competitive use suggests repaired and used as recce car.
Tulip Apr 68. Makinen/Easter., Gp2. Mk2. New car?
Recce use?
Browning then lists use as a (new) race car for Rhodes in 69 but Price lists LBL666D for same races:

LBL66D as it appeared on the '67 Monte. The pictures can be found in what appears to be a must for fans of '60s Rallying, Rallying 1967 by John Davenport and Reinhard Klein. The book is published by McKlein.

I first saw this car in its Lock up garage in South Shields back in the early 80's, owned by twin brothers with Anderson as their surname i seem to remember.
The car was damaged as per recent photos even back then ! seem to remember one of the brothers saying he crashed it and caused the damage. We got it going after years of storage and its split weber engine spluttered into life...............Arghh the smell of Castrol R ..........smells of Victory !
The twins also had a Mk3 S jammed in gear that was parked up since its mechanical failure back in the 70s also interesting but not as much as the Ex works car they owned, strange they had little or no interest in the car back then, bet that changed when values shot up ..............happy days.

The turquoise engine colour is interesting, does it have any significance?
My race engine and box was that colour when I bought it from a guy who had raced it in the 1970s.

I may be mis-remembering this (talking 130110ck5) but isn’t painting metal blue (especially cast) a way of showing up any cracks more readily ?
If it is, could this be a reason ?

"Engineers Blue" was a way of detecting cracks in the olden days, You would cover or immerse the thing being crack tested in blue dye, clean it off & then cover it in talcum powder, this would draw any dye in cracks out & make the cracks visible.
In this case, its a replacement 163 head, These were usually painted that blue colour from the factory they were then given a coat of green over the top. This just hasn't had it's top coat.

Appreciate the Engineers Blue thing, thinking about it though, I have an inline axle (Ford narrowed for an A35) which was painted blue rather than black, I am sure I was told this was to show up any cracks.
