Mini DA Sander - Electric
I have an air powered mini DA sander, the 90 degree type that has a chuck and use this with 2" discs however I've always wanted an electric one as my piddly compressor runs constantly when using it. Has anyone ever seen an electric one of these ?. All I can find are the palm held type that take the 4" velcro discs, I have one of these already but need the smaller one for more intricate sanding.

These are really expensive as a hobby sander if you use it alot it’s worth the investment..
Its cheaper than a big compressor..

Mirka do a cordless 2” DA but it’s over £500:

I don’t think these are DA, but cheaper, especially if you have other tools with the same batteries:

Why are these so expensive?. I don't use them often enough to justify this sort of cost. Thought there would be a cheap option as there is for most power tools.

Mirka are the Rolls Royce amongst the car body tools and Milwaukee and Makita or Bosch blue play in the top league too. For professionals or ambitious amateurs who use these tools more or less daily the costs are alright.
But for one who uses them once in a while there are good quality reasonably priced tools on the market.
Bosch blue -> Bosch green
Makita -> Maktec
etc.

You need a sealy DAS 150 . 240volt . Can have stick it pad or Velcro . Been using them for well over 25 years . …. Prices vary but you should find one brand new for about £125 ish …. Ken. The pads on these are 150mm

Re: Mini DA Sander - Electric
I need a 50mm pad diameter to get into the corners on the wheels I'm sanding. A bigger diameter catches other surfaces and wrecks them. The air sander is the perfect size so I might just need to put up with the compressor running continually.

Re: Mini DA Sander - Electric
They are vapour blasted but then need to be sanded with progressive grits to achieve the polished finish on the unpainted surfaces. I've used the air sander on half a dozen sets of wheels, just want an alternative to avoid hammering the compressor to death.

Re: Mini DA Sander - Electric
Do Rupes do one? Just bought a longbed extracted electric sander from them.
I havent seen an affordable electric 50mm one before otherwise i would have bought one, the smaller sanders come in useful.

Re: Mini DA Sander - Electric
Thanks, I hadn't heard of Rupes. They do have a 50mm cordless sander that looks ideal for my needs but again very pricey for occasional use (£360). I think I'll just put up with running the compressor for now. I wonder what makes this type of sander so expensive when the 4" palm held type are available for £30 to £50 (mains powered). I guess there is far less demand for the smaller tools that would drive costs up, would make sense.

Re: Mini DA Sander - Electric
The Mirka Deros sand is the best in my opinion, I've been using them for at least 5 years, and haven't had one go on me "touch wood". They use the latest brushless motors, and just seem to go on forever. Previous to using these, we went through loads of different ones that didn't really last long before the bearings went. The vacuum's they came with are good, but don't last as well, I've replaced 2 of the 3 motors up till now.
Plus the control you get with them definitely speeds up and in improves your work, so pays to invest really.

Re: Mini DA Sander - Electric
Thanks but far too "commercial " for my needs, I'll just carry on with the air sander for all the time I use it.
