Appendix K front and rear subframe build
Hi
Looking for opinions / suggestions on best quality tried and tested parts to fit to the subrames on Appendix k Cooper S.
Top arms
Bottom arms - adjustable then weld in position?
Tie bars
Bushes (nylon or poly)
Rear camber brackets - adjustable - then weld?
Roll bar
Cones - clarification on which cones I can use (part number would be great) but I think this is standard Cone only?
And anything else I've not mentioned.
Thanks in advance
Dave

Re: Appendix K front and rear subframe build
Top arms...dry or hydro if you can get them, most 'FIA' cars in UK have top arms that have the ball joint eye cut off, arm shortened, then eye welded back on. This is so you can get the camber you want, without making the track too wide when using 4.75 Rose Petal wheels.
Bottom arms....Std
Tie bars...fit adjustable to get the caster you want, measure length, then shorten std ones by moving the washer further down the arm.
Bushes....personal choice
Camber brackets....KAD ones, set toe and camber you want, then drill, thread and grubscrew them in place.
Roll bar...front not allowed, rear from KAD, Owen, Rightline.
Cones...Yellow
Dampers....There are ridiculous priced ones available from Swiftune and MED. You are not allowed alloy bodied. Koni, Gaz, Quantum.
Hi-Lows....everyone uses them in UK, not legal in Europe.
Front droop stops...remove rubber buffer from subframe, drill and thread top arm, fit a bolt, and adjust to required droop.
Tyres....Mandatory Dunlop, scrubbed to 4mm

Re: Appendix K front and rear subframe build
Thanks Ozoap
So the yellow dot cones can be used with shortened hi lows.
I have seen the adjustable bottom arms fitted is this just for set up purposes?
I was also under the impression original trumpets had to be used and cut and the use of hi lows was for set up or has it now been proved hi lows were a period mod?
Is there anyone in the Leicestershire area involved in Historic?
Info is very much appreciated.
Cheers
Dave

What championship are you looking at HSCC? Masters?

Hilos are illegal in Europe.
"Pre 66 Appendix K" in UK means anything that certain 'people' do is allowed. Nothing is written down.

Yes HSCC and Masters.
I think I know what your saying when you say 'certain people'!
We'll see what our motor can do and I'm sure there will be a fairly steep learning curve with car parts and set up but that will be part of the fun of building it.
I won't be running a newly cast "940" head let's put it that way so will probably be way off but we have to start somewhere to then go forward.
Cheers

Re: Appendix K front and rear subframe build
All the best with the build.
I currently have 3 'Pre 66' engines/gearboxes underway.
Biggest problem, as you mention, is not having access to the specially cast heads.
