Springall copy steering wheel

Post by dgear1984 »

Hi,

I fitted a works replica springall steering wheel in my mk1 back 2014. Can’t remember the name of the guy that was remaking them at the time.

I’ve noticed it’s gone pretty soft and flex’s a lot. I don’t ever remember it being that soft when I fitted it. Cars been in storage since end of 14 till a few months ago.

Has anyone else had issues like this and how have they rectified the issue. I really like the design of the wheel so I don’t really want to change it.

Thanks Dave

Hi Dave.

:ugeek: The problem is the alloy is going to be weak when getting old and used a lot. This is also common on the Les Leston Grand Prix wheels. The alloy is very thin and the wheel is flat so when holding the steeringwheel while braking the alloy will bend a bit. In years of use the alloy will become tired and will feel soft if that is what you mean.

A dished steeringwheel is much stronger.
