One of my seats has a lot of play in the back when it should be locked. There seems to be a serrated (toothed?) plate on the LHS which I assume is the locking mechanism, and I'm thinking that it must be this that has worn out, causing the problem. I haven't taken it to bits yet as I'm not sure how it all goes together! Is this a common problem? presumably a 50 year old drivers seat would be prone to this. Is it fixable? etc ...
Thanks as always

Re: Mk 2 Reclining seat problem
My car was and ex cop car John and had been carefully thrashed to death by hundreds of big footed 'worlds best drivers' and both seats were what you technically minded engineering types would describe as '......totally shagged...' . Both mine - and the spare I got from Merseyside police afterwards were stripped right back and I had to rebuild the actuating parts of the frames including the seat angle ratchet/cog parts..
Difficult to describe because describing the problems is difficult. Is there anyone out there in Forumland who has a folding (or collapsing in my case.....) seat stripped down can put a few pics up. I seem to remember someone doing one a year or so ago.

Re: Mk 2 Reclining seat problem
I have the same problem with the drivers side recliner on my MK2, passenger side recliner is fine, like John any advice on how this issue can be rectified would be helpful.johnv wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 11:34 am One of my seats has a lot of play in the back when it should be locked. Re: Mk 2 Reclining seat problem
I remember having to weld up some of the cogs or teeth and finding an old bolt where a rivet should have been. Interesting.....

Re: Mk 2 Reclining seat problem
I bought a pair of new MkII recliners complete from Newton - might be worth asking if they can supply any of the relevant parts.

Re: Mk 2 Reclining seat problem
I think that we've been there and I seem to think that the mechanism is slightly different and not interchangeable.
