SU's - Twins From 2 Singles?

Post by GTM71 »

Hi Guys

I'm looking at getting a set of Twin 1.5" SU's in either H4 or HS4, can I buy 2 singles and build a set of twins out of them?

This is for a rear engined GTM so don't need the angled float or any of that stuff. Twin 1.5" SU's are so expensive these days!

Cheers

I didn't think that you could, but........ Dr Mabo has done such a conversion. Look at the last page of his thread on making a Broadspeed Cooper S.

Better still, start at page one, sit back and look in awe at this master craftsman at work............

Rather you than me. Getting the linkages synchronised will be an absolute xxxxxxx nightmare.

If I was dong this, I'd buy a couple a half decent single carbs. Refurb the one that is correct for a pair. Strip the 'odd' one and buy a new or decent body, then use the 'odd' parts to rebuild it to make up the twin-carb set. Phew...... Now you've got to make of buy the standard linkages.

I bought a pair of hs4 bodies for an mgb for £40 off eBay, they had the correct throttle and choke spindles for linkages. Then stripped two singles down for the rest of the parts, I already had the spindles and linkages but they are easily available the mgb ones are the same just have longer spindles which are easily cut
