I have a 22G382 Magic Wand box fitted with B-Type gears, was this casing fitted to the early mini from the factory? If so what period was it fitted. I can find references to Elf&Hornet, but not much info linking it to the MK1 mini.

You mean an 832 box?
My car is fitted with one, four sync and b gears. It also has an early type of wand, but I've come to suspect that is because the diff housing at the rear is not original.
I don't think these were fitted to Minis ex-works, only as you say, Elf/Hornets, and then with a remote.
