Clutch Slave Cylinder Spring Anchor
What is the proper positioning of the “spring anchor”.
The manual seems clear enough but I have seen many variations.
- anchor on rear of lever
- pin goes rear to front
Here are a few pics.

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder Spring Anchor
I agree with Mark - that seems to be the norm on alder 'untouched' engines.
Although I prefer to do it as the first image so if the split pin is lost there is a little less chance of the clevis pin falling out. And as I'm not too fussed about originality I use an r-clip rather than a split pin.

Agree with Mark/Graeme's interpretation too. And split pin too! And there's no mechanical need for that xxxxxxg great spring. Most people just use a lesser carburettor return spring

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder Spring Anchor
Clevis pin is normally fitted from the front so the split pin cannot be seen from the ones I’ve seen, as per the first image

I think we used to reverse them when the spring had worn a groove too.

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder Spring Anchor
The Clevis pin is fitted from the rear with the anchor plate
A flat washer is fitted between the clutch arm and the split pin, this locates the anchor plate tightly onto the arm
The spring is fitted with the hooks to the rear

So ... This is as shown in the first picture taken from AKD3509.
I will be sure to position the spring as you suggest.

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder Spring Anchor
So... AKD3509 / AKD3502 vs 850 manual vs vendor pictures
- agreement on clevis pin against “spring anchor”, washer and split/cotter pin against clutch lever
- disagreement on position/orientation of “spring anchor” (front vs rear)
So...”to each their own”!
Thanks for all contributions.

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder Spring Anchor
Trying out this bonnet catch spring on the clutch slave cylinder as an alternative to the wretched standard spring, it’s much easier to fit and doesn’t sprain your wrist fitting it.

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder Spring Anchor
Its the middle one, but the sping in the photo is the wrong one !
and @Cammsjb ...your arm needs replacing as there shouldnt be so much of the rod showing, thats why its hard to put the standard spring on ! how much of the 7/16" bolt is showing on the wok ?

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder Spring Anchor
There's 1/8" between the setting nut & the 'wok' when the clutch is at rest.
