The Other GRX309D At A Recent Hill Climb

Post by surfblue63 »

Footage of a GRX 309D taking part in the 2021 Bernina Gran Turismo. Plenty of other interesting cars in the footage.

Great footage Stu…thanks for sharing. That 309D looks great. Pretty sure we all know what that car really is by now.

The really odd thing about that one is that the owner has changed its appearance from the 1966 RAC Rally car it was built to replicate in the 90s to the actual genuine 1966 Flowers Rally car currently owned by Paul Bates. Baffled by that.

Yes, that is odd Pete. It was a very nicely built ( and appeared quite accurate ) replica of the 66 RAC car.

It was claimed to be the actually Graham Hill rally car (which even the works experts didn’t believe) in which case why has it been transformed back to 1966 Flowers appearance, which of course was a different car (sorry discarded shell) and is owned by Paul. Very confusing. Isn’t it always!?

Look, apparently the owner is such a rich dude full of Money and in this circle if he claim to have the original car, nobody venture to say that he is a liar...

Many of the cars and drivers participate at events like the Bernina Gran Turismo are just there to present themselves...
I promise i won't buy another MkI...

I think there were so many bodyshells replaced in period. Especially amateur competitors who went off route and rebuilt between events!

I think that it is common knowledge that ' THAT ' GRX 309D, the car that wears the registration number, has no parts at all ( apart from the v5, that passed through many hands ) from any of the Works cars, and was built in the mid 1990's ( to a very high standard ) as replica of the 1966 RAC car. It is not even that now as it's appearance has recently been changed to emulate the 1966 flowers car, which we all know is owned by Paul Bates, and it's history is well documented on this forum. The Other 309D does look a very nice car.... however much money they owner has, he cannot change the truth.
