Re: A looming time ahead
Experimented with bulb holders today and thankfully they all seem tight. I have some old spares if needs be and a couple of NOS if I need them.
Roger's thread said that the dip switch wire connection was under the dash, but when I took down the heater in our original car they were on top, so I am doing the same.
So far so good, and I have even found the correct grommet from auto sparks. I do have one 'extra' green wire coming out of the wiper switch branch. As you'll see in my pics I - any thoughts n this one as I thought a plain colour would be a feed? Or should the double green do a different job perhaps? I haven't connected the heater wire yet either.

... and here's the original unrestored car under the dash where the colours, unlike the engine bay, are still pretty bright. Just like this one, the dip switch cable to the joins (above the shelf) are not strained at all.

Re: A looming time ahead
... just wondering if any early S had a rheostat heater switch, so perhaps that is my extra green wire? Or maybe the loom was made with one 'in case'?
This item on ebay made me wonder??? Seems to make sense if, for example, 63 cars had them?

2 questions, 1: Andy where did you get those wing covers from and 2: who supplies the best harnesses? Asking for a friend

Re: A looming time ahead
Lol, the guards are from Fred Nippy cars.
My loom (I've checked) is auto sparks and to be fair, apart from the odd extra wire for later cars in it for some reason, e.g. the interior roof light has the extra for the door switches, it is pretty much spot on with my original (1071).
They only supply the main and rear looms so the dip switch on the floor was an extra, as was the grommet. I think I am going to make up the light looms as that's extra too.
Snuck over to my 'reference' car again today and had time to connect up the 5 way plug in exactly the same way. As Roger found, the plain green wire and brown and black wire on the indicator switch are not fed by the same colours in the loom, so not like the wiring diagram either as that suggests they are all the same!!!!!
Sharing pics of both, so hopefully will help any others who hit the same snag

Wiper box being sorted, plus an idea for a little extra seal cut from an oversize one, now coated in wax before being tightened up

Re: A looming time ahead
Very interesting......I had the signal thingamy off my 61 Wagon a few weeks ago, and, didn't notice any difference in wiring from the switch side to the harness.......
Just went out and checked, and, the wires are indeed exactly the same from one side to the other.....
Also checked my new replacement harness, and, it is indeed like yours with different colours on the harness side....
Very strange...... will check later today all my switch units, and, see if they are all the same....

Re: A looming time ahead
Just found another loom from a April 64 car according to the fusebox. It still has its dash rubber grommet on it and helps to confirm the exact location. I am sure they could have done this more effectively!!!

Re: A looming time ahead
Had a couple of hours spare today so fitted the pipes through the grommet ready for the water jets and under dash hand pump, then took a good look at an old 850 and my original S loom before fitting the fuse box. Both the old ones were upside down as it happens, so I did the same. Those old wires had really lost their colour too, so hope this is right. Getting the plastic covered spade connectors on was a bit tight, but at least they won't fall off
If anyone sees any issues please holler.
I realize I now need to find 17amp continuous and 35 amp blow fuses to match the originals.
Also started to look at the speedo, but will do another thread on that when I've pulled it apart to sort out the rear rust on it.

I was going to fit a NOS control box but this cleaned up easily and looks good inside too.
Any wiring checkers out there? (1071 loom).

Re: A looming time ahead
Looks good to me...I once put them completely opposite to that and instantly burnt-out the earth wire, luckily it only rant to the earth above the flasher, so managed to repair it all

Re: A looming time ahead
Ouch - that could have been a nasty one Nick. Thanks for the confirmation as it is so easy to make a silly error, like I did with the wipers
